My name is Roslyn Johnson. I head the Technology department at a local school by day, but when then school work is done, and I eventually get home, I relax and unwind with my passion ,which is sculpting!
I have always had a love of dolls and collected them from a very early age. Lots of the photographs of me as a child show me with a doll in my hand. My earliest memory of sculpting was at infants school when my friends would ask me to make a cradle with a baby in it out of plasticine for them . I absolutley loved it when the teacher would go into the store cupboard, bring out new boxes of plasticine in vibant colours, open the cellophane wrap, and cut off chunks for us to use. I can almost smell it as I write.
My creative streak runs in the family. My mother is, and always has been remarkable at crafts and is so talented with a paint brush. Her work is sold and at 80, she still paints remarkable canvases, makes birthday cards, and just dabbles in all sorts of crafts. My brother is probably the most outstanding artist in the family. He now owns his own business as a technical illustrator. The other two brothers and my sister are also artistic and creative though like me, use their talents to relax.
My love of doll collecting has never waned, so when I had my very first PC, you can imagine what I spent most of my time searching for. One evening I came across a One Of a Kind sculpt. I could not believe what I was seeing. It was so real! I ordered my first OOAK form The Doll Room in the US, a little beauty named Rossanne , a Jannie De Lange sculpt. Before she arrive however, I went to visit Jennifer Dunning at Classic Collection Dolls because even though I have bought this brand new OOAK I still could not get my head around the fact that she was made of clay. I had to go and see for myself. I ended up buying a little Diddy Jacobson baby from her. A little gem by the name of Sara.
Not satisfied with owning OOAKS, I eventually had to find out how tey were being made. It took me several months and eventually, i found a web site ( they were few and far between then), that had a video by Els Oostema for sale. it cost a lot of money but I set about buying it. I looked at the video once! It wasn't even in English!! I thought " I can do that" and set about finding the clay and all the tools etc. About 6 months later, I was ready to start. The first two heads I made were like aliens but the third one sold in 10 minutes of it going up for sale on a doll web site. A lady in Colarado bought it, and the rest they say, is history!
I won Best Newborn Baby in the Colliii international awards in 2009, was nominated as a finalist the following year and was a nominee again in 2011 with Alys who appears on the right of the first page on this web site. Some of my babies have been made into vinyl kits for the reborn market. I have had one sculpt made into silicone though I am busy working on perfecting the technique so I can pour my own. Watch this space!
For the past 2 years I have been invited by Clay and Paint factory owner to Frankfurt to an international expo at the 4 day exhibition. It has been an honour and a wondeful experience to be able to demonstrate how I use Cernit clay to make my babies.

This little one measures just 10 inches and is ideal for those who want to collect but who just don't have the space. She is a full sculpt on a cotton body. Her limbs are not disc jointed but they will move with careful handling. She wears a pretty rosebud and lace outfit and I have crochet her a fine thread three piece outfit too, so she has a change of wardrobe.

She is a full sculpt on a soft disc jointer cotton body. She measures approx 13 inches and has dark quality alpaca hair baked into the scalp.
She will come home wearing a onesie vest, her pretty pink brodiere anglais two piece outfit ( dress and matching pants), and a white crochet three piece matinee jacket, bonnet and booties finished with pink ribbons and pearl buttons which I made to match her dress.

Naomi mesures approx 17 inches with her legs bent and would be about 18 inches if they were straight. She is made with baby soft platinum silicone.
